LE BEL AGE
In bonjour tristesse or in la piscine, rivalry between women of all ages is a classic, but the conclusion is the following: they are all beautiful. This season we explore the notion of rivalry in a new way: in l’année des méduses by Christopher Frank (1984), a young teenage daughter discovers her sexuality and her ability to be desired. She has « le bel age » as the singer barbara would say. She represents youth and sexiness reaching its climax and yet, the one man she would like to appeal to is into her mother. How surprising when she is supposed to be the ultimate beauty! But desire and beauty has no age.
